Frequently Asked Questions

When do I sign up for a dining plan?
All new first-year & transfer students sign up for a meal plan during the application process. Returning students select their meal plans during the room selection process. All meal plan sign-ups are handled by the Residence Assignments Office located in Eickhoff 114.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my dining plan?
Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade your dining plan from semester to semester. Please contact Residence Assignments at 609-771-2301 or visit them online at www.tcnj.edu/%7Ereslife/assignments/index.php for deadlines.

Can you accommodate special dietary needs?
We are very accustomed to working with students who have special dietary needs such as allergies, gluten-free diets, etc. To set up an appointment to discuss menu selection and other options, please contact us at 609-771-2364 or email our Registered Dietician, Jeanne Molloy at sdhrd@tcnj.edu.

What does Carte Blanche mean?
Students who are on a Carte Blanche plan may enter Eickhoff as many times as they wish during the hours permitted by their meal plan. Every time you enter, you simply present your GetIt card, and get swiped in. No money or points are deducted from your account.

What is Meal Equivalency?
Meal Equivalency gives students on a Carte Blanche meal plan the flexibility to “exchange” a swipe into Eickhoff Dining Hall for $6.00 worth of food at the Rathskellar, The Food Court or The Library Café. The Meal Equivalency privilege is only available between 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

What do I do if I have a problem or suggestion?
We encourage all customers to immediately ask for a manager or supervisor if there is ever a problem in one of our dining facilities. We realize students have very busy schedules, and if they should not have the time to speak with someone immediately, they can call us at another time at 609-771-2364 , or email sdhmktg@tcnj.edu. Customers are also encouraged to attend our Dining Services Committee meetings held every other week. Students can also use the Feedback form found here on our website.

I'm a commuter, what are my options?
The Block Plan was developed specifically with commuters, faculty and staff in mind. With the Block Plan, you can purchase a 25 or 50 “block” of meals to enjoy in Eickhoff Dining Hall. Each time you enter, a meal is removed from your block. These block plans can be purchased or added to at any time throughout the semester in our office which may be found in Eickhoff Hall through the Marketplace Convenience Store, or you can download an application here and send it in.

Do Meals and/or points carry over each semester?
Meal plan points, and meals for those on a Block Plan, do carry over from the Fall semester to the Spring semester, but do not carry over from Spring to Fall. All points or meals not used by the end of the Spring semester will be forfeited.

Can I take food out of Eickhoff Dining Hall?
The policy for taking food out of Eickhoff Dining Hall is that anything that you are in the process of eating may be removed, for example if you were eating your bagel on your way out to a morning class, you can certainly take it. Because of food safety issues we cannot allow students to take food “to-go”. Students may also take beverages out in the provided Carte Blanche thermal mug that comes free with every Carte Blanche meal plan.

Do you offer vegetarian options?
At each of our dining locations, vegetarians can find many options to suit their dietary needs. Outside of Eickhoff Hall, a ‘Vegetarian Matrix’ is displayed so that vegetarians can see what their options are for the week. Tofu is available as a substitute for proteins at most stations in the dining halls as well, in addition to many vegetarian wraps, panini sandwiches, salads and hot items.

I am a vegetarian and like to buy my own food, can I be released from my meal plan?
All students living on campus are required to be enrolled in a meal plan. We encourage students who feel as though they are not getting what they need out of the meal plan to contact us at (609) 771-2364 , or via email at sdhmktg@tcnj.edu. Students can also join us at a Dining Services Committee meeting.

I have classes scheduled throughout the dinner time period, what can I do?
Accommodations can be made for students who are on a Carte Blanche plan, and who have classes through the dinner meal period. Please contact us at (609)771-2364 to make such arrangements.

It is only November and I have run out of all my points, what can I do?
Students who have run out of dining points before the end of the semester can add GetIt points to their card, which can be used at all dining locations on campus. To do this, students should visit Card Services in Green Hall, Room 119, or can add points to their card online at www.tcnj.edu/~sfs/card/index.html.

I am having a problem with my GetIt card, what should I do?
If a student’s card does not work at any dining services location, or says that a privilege is unassigned when the student thinks it should be, they should immediately visit Card Services in Green Hall, Room 119.

I just put money on my card, and now it won't work for purchases? Why?
All deposits made usually take 24 hours to go through the system. Money deposited is not immediately available for purchases. If it has been a few days and the card still does not work, please visit Card Services in green Hall, Room 119.
